lessons in layering and life

IMG_7872
as plaidtober grows older and the temperatures trend colder, sometimes you have no choice but to grab a cozy sweater. but of course not just any sweater: a plaid sweater. one with a slight nod to Cliff Huxtable just for kicks and giggles. and while the morning air is sufficiently chilly enough for such thick outerwear, the afternoon sunshine warmed me up just enough to shed the sweater and drape it jauntily about my shoulders. that there is the beauty of layering. it's not always just for fashions' sake. if i had not worn my most favorite super long white blouse underneath, i would have been most inappropriate walking about town topless. so let this be a lesson: always wear two shirts. it makes you look like a styling genius, plus you'll never be in an awkward wardrobe snafu, namely being naked.

plaizer

IMG_7860
ah, it's friday. which means absolutely nothing to me as i work every single saturday, but still there is a special magic that comes with the word 'friday.'
however, this is what i wore yesterday. a day that was just warm enough that i didn't know wether or not i wanted to bare my arms so i sufficed to jack up the sleeves of my plaid blazer and call it good. these october afternoons have been an utter delight. we've been enjoying the kind of temps that don't dictate your wardrobe. just about anything goes and is comfortable. i can really get into that.
so with my favorite deep-v diy cut-off tank and plaizer (plaid blazer, ya dig?), i wore a pair of newly thrifted pink patent leather loafers and super rad coated black jeans. seriously, thank you to the crazy people who give away their gently used awesome stuff to salvation army. i deeply appreciate your ridiculous generosity and will always be there to swoop in and claim it as my own.

plaidtober

IMG_7835
plaid+october=plaidtober. this month we are mad for plaid. nothing says 'fall' more than (sweating in) a flannel and jeans. sure it was 80 degrees but i made the sacrifice all in the name of kicking off a new vintage campaign for the shop. and i like plaid, so there.
as per usual, all my clothes are vintage and/or from the thrift. i initially bought this shirt for my kiddo but found i could quasi wear it so maybe we'll share it? or i'll probably just keep it. yeah, that's more likely. and i found these excellent bootcut/flare hybrid levi's over the weekend thinking they were more of a straight leg jean. they were too comfortable for me to be annoyed by the noncommittal cut so snatched them up and brought them home. i mean, if it feels this good it can't possibly be wrong, right? and i don't even really know what to do with this little mexican leather purse. seriously, i can't even fit my lipgloss in it. but sometimes you find a few odd pieces, put them all together and have a great time wearing them on a gorgeously warm plaidtober day.

classy lady

IMG_7793
still rockin' the denim hardcore. i threw this on to open my shop for downtown Girls Night Out yesterday. and to get people super excited to buy their denim from me, i decided to double up on the stuff, just not in typical tuxedo fashion. these are most obviously my fave ripped up jeans right now and i paired it with this super soft faux-bleach-stained chambray shirt with excellent pearl snaps.  i kept the accessories simple and a little bit silly. a frilly silver bag, a necklace that says 'classy lady' and a watch that doesn't work but is always set to 5:00. oh, and i was also sporting some major sweat but i don't think that showed too much in the pics. it was a warm one yesterday.
and i think all this paid off because i had a pretty good night of sales. i heart my customers and the ladies (and gents) who come in to chat and buy my wares. makes a girl happy.

september denim dayzzz

we are all about denim this month at amandromeda. because, let's face it, there's nothing more transitional than jeans and her softer chambray counterpart. whether it's layered or meant to shine on it's own, denim rules.
everything seen is in store and ready to go. blue jean baby.

transitional denim and white

IMG_7698
who's ready for fall?! not me. but i am thinking about transitioning my wardrobe for the season ahead. this month, i am highlighting denim in my shop. gathering up all the jeans, jackets, shirts, skirts, dresses that i can to style and accessorize with a focus on the move from warmer to cooler weather. that is what i did with this outfit. looks vaguely similar to the one i posted before, no? it's taking the same denim bottom/white top concept but with a nod to the transitional.
so here's what you do: throw on jeans instead of shorts and pair it with a white blazer. sure the blazer is linen and it's after labor day, but whatever because we don't care about rules. we just want to take our white blazer out for one last summer time spin, this time as a top instead of a layering item. maybe let a lacy black bra peek through because you just got it and you think it's kinda pretty. don your favorite necklaces for some color and interest and slip into some strappy sandals, but low wedges because let's face it, those stilettos don't work with your (my) janky feet. and of course, keep your first aid clutch close, because you never know when you'll need bandages, lipstick, or a nip of whiskey to help assuage the pain of summer's end.
